Erik Ten Hag must get his team on Saturday right from the start. Brentford have scored inside the first minute in three straight games. A fourth straight would be an early damaging blow to a team that lacks confidence.
In the attack, Marcus Rashford should start with Rasmus Hojlund in the middle. Alejandro Garnacho’s pace and confidence should earn him the other wing in a must-win match.
Bruno Fernandes will continue to try to find form playing at the ten. Christian Eriksen will also play a part in the attack, but from a deeper role. The Dane’s chance creation has been impressive this season, and he is coming off a great performance against Switzerland. Manuel Ugarte picked up a knock with Urguay and will miss the Brentford match. Casemiro will start next to Eriksen, with Kobbie Mainoo also out for multiple weeks due to injury.
Noussair Mazraoui and Harry Maguire’s absences will complicate things at the back. Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are not yet fit enough to play, leaving Ten Hag without a senior left-back option. Harry Amass, who was with the team on the summer tour, could be an option. However, the 17-year-old’s lack of first-team minutes will likely earn him nothing more than a bench appearance. Either Jonny Evans or Lisandro Martinez will start on the left side of defense, with the Argentine the likelier option.
