Manchester United begin the Europa League campaign against Dutch side Twente on Wednesday. The first of the eight league-stage matches will take place at Old Trafford, with the Tukkers visiting United for their inaugural competitive encounter.
United’s last Europa League pursuit ended in Spain, as Sevilla cruised past the Reds in the Quarterfinals. Last season, a bottom finish in the group stage sent Erik Ten Hag’s side crashing out of Europe.
With a point to prove in Europe, Ten Hag will likely go with a strong eleven to set the tone for the campaign.
Matthijs De Ligt and Lisandro Martinez have spearheaded a resurgent backline with Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui. The four, along with Andre Onana, will aim for a fourth straight competitive clean sheet for United.
Manuel Ugarte will likely step into the midfield alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes. Fernandes will need to step up soon if United are to truly compete in the Premier League and Europa League.
Marcus Rashford should return to the eleven after starting on the sidelines at the weekend. His benching was a questionable decision by Ten Hag, who likely regretted leaving his in-form attacker out of the starting side after the 0-0 draw.
Predicted Eleven
Goalkeeper: Andre Onana
Defenders: Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs De Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Diogo Dalot
Midfielders: Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes
Attackers: Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford
