Former Red Dean Henderson ended Manchester United’s goalscoring frenzy with seven saves. After two great wins, a failure to continue the ruthlessness in front of goal resulted in dropped points.
Dean Henderson, who came through the famed academy system at United, produced one of his best career performances to haunt his former club. Many of his seven saves were world-class, perhaps showing United officials what they missed out on.
The visiting Reds dominated possession, with 67%, and outshot Palace 15-9. The ball movement through the midfield often flowed effectively, but none of the attackers could find a final product. Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes, Lisandro Martinez, and Matthijs De Ligt all missed big chances in the first half.
While United should have sealed a win, Crystal Palace created a couple of great chances themselves. Andre Onana stood tall in the 65th minute with a stunning double save, including a flying stop around the six-yard box. Eberechi Eze also flashed a quality chance wide in the final minutes.
A goalless draw is frustrating, but Erik Ten Hag’s side have now kept clean sheets in three straight matches. The defense was solid and Andre Onana has been a force since his return from international duty. After last season’s deficiencies at the back, a streak of clean sheets is a breath of fresh air.
Manchester United host Twente to begin the Europa League campaign on Wednesday, before Tottenham travel to Old Trafford for a critical match on Sunday.
