One of the big talking points for Manchester United during the transfer window was whether the club would sign Sofyan Amrabat permanently. The Moroccan spent last season on loan at Old Trafford from Fiorentina and there was an option to make the move permanent. Erik Ten Hag wanted the club to trigger that option, however, he was blocked from doing so.
Sofyan Amrabat struggled for consistent playing time while at United last season. The defensive midfielder played 30 times for the Reds last year, though primarily off the bench or out of position at left-back.
Internal discussions among United chiefs deemed an Amrabat transfer unnecessary after five players were signed to the first team. A move for the Moroccan would have cost €20 million, a high fee for a player who would likely only be used sparingly. This became especially true after the arrival of Manuel Ugarte.

Even after demands were lowered for Amrabat, United officials rejected the chance to sign him, even on loan.
After a return to Old Trafford failed to materialize, Sofyan Amrabat joined former United manager Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce, who face United in the Europa League.
When the two sides face off on October 24th, Amrabat won’t be the only former Red United face, as Fred, who already has three goals in the Turkish League, is an important player for Mourinho’s team.
Was rejecting Sofyan Amrabat the right call or a mistake by Manchester United?
