Following a defeat to Manchester City in the Community Shield, Manchester United will open the Premier League season against Fulham on Friday. Last season, the Reds opened with a loss against Brighton and Hove Albion. Erik Ten Hag will need a better start to the 2024/2025 season. So, who will be, or should be, on his team sheet on Friday?
After missing pre-season, critical players such as Lisandro Martinez, Bruni Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and Alejandro Garnacho returned against Manchester City. All four of those players will be the first names on the team sheet for Erik Ten Hag Friday and the rest of the season.
Amad Diallo has been a massive bright spot over the past month and deserves an opportunity to start the Premier League opener. His form should see him start over Marcus Rashford on the wing.
Andre Onana and Casemiro had a difficult tour in the United States but will look to rebound as the season begins. Casemiro will need to perform at a high level until Manchester United can find a long-term partner for Kobbie Mainoo.
Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs De Ligt have finally been confirmed as Manchester United players. Barring any registration issues, both players will be available for selection on Friday at Old Trafford.
The arrival of both former Bayern Munich and Ajax players comes at a crucial time, as both Leny Yoro and Luke Shaw have hit the injury list already. After missing the Community Shield, Shaw’s injury details have been confirmed, as he injured his calf sometime during pre-season.
Best Lineup for Friday:
Goalkeeper: Andre Onana
Defenders: Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs De Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui
Midfielders: Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes
Attackers: Amad Diallo, Joshua Zirkzee, Alejandro Garnacho
Would you make any changes to this lineup?
