Manchester United pulled off a stunning move earlier this summer when Leny Yoro arrived at Old Trafford. Unfortunately, it took the 18-year-old mere minutes to join the new season’s injury list, and now United needs a replacement fast.
According to Spanish journalist Maximo De la Cruz Ramirez, Manchester United have joined the race to sign Mario Hermoso. The 29-year-old is available for free this summer after he let his contract at Atletico Madrid run out.
Hermoso is a product of Real Madrid’s “La Fábrica.” After never playing a match for the first team, the Spaniard moved to Espanyol in 2017. An impressive two seasons there saw Hermoso return to Madrid to play for the other side of the city.
In the past three seasons, Mario Hermoso has missed ten total matches. Compared to the rest of Manchester United’s options, that is a small number and could provide Erik Ten Hag with the reliability that he has lacked.
Another key area that Hermoso could help in is experience. After the departure of Raphael Varane, United’s defensive line has limited big-match experience. In Madrid, the Spaniard made 29 Champions League appearances, including last year’s quarter-final against finalists Borussia Dortmund.
Hermoso will have plenty of options to choose from as the transfer window closes. Both Inter and AC Milan have scheduled meetings with the player, and there is interest from other La Liga and Premier League clubs.
Would Mario Hermoso be a good signing for Manchester United as a free transfer?
