Fan Highlights is a way for United Beyond Manchester to highlight the great fans of our beloved club. Every supporter is important, and we want to allow each one to have a voice and share their special moments as a fan. All we do is ask the questions, and the highlighted fans share answers in their own words.

This week’s Fan Highlight is Tymiah from South Africa! Read about his experiences and more below!

Questions:

How did you become a Manchester United fan?

I basically grew up in a family full of Arsenal fans, so I was groomed to be an Arsenal fan. Still, I didn’t really find myself sold on the idea of supporting Arsenal because, at the time, Manchester United was the most trending club. I remember one day, Arsenal was going to play against Manchester United, and I said that whatever team won today was the club I’d support for the rest of my life. Manchester United won 8-2 that day. That’s how I have become a die-hard Manchester United fan to date.

What is your earliest United memory?

Manchester United’s win over Arsenal is my earliest Manchester United memory since it is also the reason that I started supporting Manchester United. From Welbeck’s opener in the 22nd minute to Van Persie missing a penalty a few moments later. Then, to finish the first half, there was Rooney’s sublime freekick, Ashley Young’s curler into the top right corner, and Walcott’s goal just before halftime. Then Rooney scored another Freekick just after halftime to make it 4 for Manchester United, Nani coolly finished and then Ji-Sung Park scored a few minutes later. Van Persie then scored for Arsenal to make it 6- 2. Finally, Jenkinson received a red card, and Rooney completed his hat trick from the spot. What a day that was!

What is your favorite Manchester United memory and why?

I would say my favorite memory was when we won the Europa League trophy. It had been over seven years without winning any European trophy, and it was the first Europa League triumph in our history.

Who is your favorite current United player and why?

My favourite current Manchester United player probably has to be Bruno Fernandes because he’s been the most consistent player ever since he signed for Manchester United. Bruno is one of those players who gives everything whenever he’s on the pitch. He’s so overworked yet so underappreciated, but he never complains. He’s so special.

If you could bring one former player into the team, who would it be and why?

I would probably bring that young, talented, and hungry Wayne Rooney that we signed from Everton because he is arguably the best forward player to ever play for Manchester United. He’s the type of player that will rejuvenate our current team.

If you could sign one player for the team this summer, who would it be and why?

I wouldn’t want to sign, but I would rather see Manchester United reinstate Mason Greenwood back to the team. With Sancho possibly leaving, there isn’t a better option out there who’s better than Greenwood. He’s a player who can dribble, create chances for himself and his teammates, and is good with both feet. He is also a good finisher.

Where is your favorite place to watch matches and who do you enjoy watching them with the most?

I am honoured to have visited Old Trafford on a match day, and trust me, Old Trafford is the best place you would ever want to watch a Manchester United game from. The atmosphere, the vibe, the noise so unbelievably beautiful. Other than that, I would rather watch the games at home with my family members.

What else would you like fans to know about you or your love for the club?

I’m a passionate Manchester United fan, and my love for this football club is unmatched. We’ve been through a lot, but considering what INEOS has done so far, I want to assure all the Manchester United fans they’re taking us back to the glory days where this club belongs. Glory, Glory, Manchester United, as the Reds go marching on on…
