After the signing of Joshua Zirkzee and the pursuit of Matthijs De Ligt, Manchester United may be considering a move for Euros and RB Leipzig standout Xavi Simons. The 21-year-old lit up the Bundesliga last season, and that form has continued into the European Championships.
In six Euros appearances, Simons had a goal and three assists. On loan at Leipzig, the Dutch international found the net nine times and assisted another thirteen. These performances have led him to be linked with multiple high-profile clubs.
One of those clubs is Manchester United, who may look to Simons as a future replacement for club captain Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese international has been tipped for a move to Saudi Arabia this summer, though that is now looking less likely. Nevertheless, United needs to start considering options for his successor.
Xavi Simons, named after the Barcelona great, would provide quality backup in the attacking midfield position. The 21-year-old’s versatility makes him even more valuable, as he can also play winger. With the right wing currently up for grabs at Old Trafford, Simons could fill that role until eventually shifting to the number ten.
Any move for Simons is likely to be difficult. He is under contract with PSG until June 2027, who may want to see what the player can do in Paris after his consistent progression over the past few seasons on loan.
Should Manchester United pursue Xavi Simons this summer?
