The final Copa America quarterfinal saw two South American heavyweights face off in a testy, hard-fought match. Ten-man Uruguay prevailed over one of the tournament favorites in a shootout fitting for the match that preceded it.
Uruguay was the better side for much of the match until a Nahitan Nandez red card provided an advantage to Brazil. Despite the man advantage, Brazil was unable to find the net, and the match went to penalties.
Eder Militao, Douglas Luiz, and Jose Maria Gimenez all missed before Manuel Ugarte buried the winning penalty. Hopefully, Manchester United fans will get the chance to see Ugarte finish past Alisson more starting next season.
Manuel Ugarte is a target for Manchester United’s midfield this summer, as the club looks for a partner for Kobbie Mainoo. Ugarte has been a standout player at Copa America, despite an up-and-down season at PSG. Any final discussions are likely to take place once the tournament finishes, as the player will remain focused on silverware.
What did you think of Uruguay’s win over Brazil?
