Manchester United center-back Lisandro Martinez scored in Argentina’s penalty shootout win over Ecuador. The headed finish was the 26-year-old’s first-ever goal for his country and would have been the winner had Ecuador not leveled in stoppage time.
Overall, Martinez had an outstanding game for his country and ended with a 7.8 Sofascore rating. Not only did he find the back of the net, but he completed 100% of his passes, won five duels, had two tackles, intercepted a pass, and had two clearances. After such a long time out this season due to injury, we are again seeing Lisandro Martinez at his best.
At Manchester United, Lisandro Martinez has one goal in his fifty-nine appearances. He is, of course, better known for his defensive abilities and is nicknamed “The Butcher.”
Martinez and Argentina find out their semifinal opponent this weekend. Good luck, Butcher. Manchester is behind you.
