Dan Ashworth has been confirmed as Manchester United’s new sporting director, and one of his first moves may be controversial.
According to several outlets, including Mirror Sport, the new Manchester United sporting director is willing to listen to offers for club captain Bruno Fernandes.
Manchester United are strapped for cash this summer, and the reported starting transfer budget is just €50 million. Despite this budget, the club needs a massive overhaul, and outgoing transfers are necessary to raise funds. With Bruno Fernandes just 29 years old and at the top of his game, this summer would be the optimal time to sell him.
Bruno Fernandes has been the best player at Old Trafford since he arrived in 2020. In his time as a Red, Fernandes has scored 79 times and assisted 66 goals. His three goals and three assists during the FA Cup this past season were integral to the team’s triumph.
Ashworth being willing to listen to offers does not mean a sale is imminent. Fernandes would only be sold if a lucrative offer came that would help in the rebuild. A fee of at least €100 million would be required to sway the club into a sale. Teams in Saudi Arabia are lining up to attract the star midfielder to the Saudi League.
Should Manchester United do everything to keep the club captain, or would a sale benefit the rebuild more?
