According to a report from ESPN, Manchester United is nearing an agreement with Newcastle United for the services of Dan Ashworth. The 53-year-old’s successful revitalization of Newcastle made him Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS’s number one target for the sporting director role.

Initially, Newcastle officials wanted £20 million, or they would make Manchester United wait 18 months during a gardening leave. Now, it seems that common sense is entering the negotiations, and the deal is nearing a conclusion.

Ashworth has been away from his duties at Newcastle since negotiations began, as he looked to force the move himself. Manchester United have been pushing to get him in as soon as possible, with the new regime wanting to make big changes this summer.

Manchester United have already added Jason Wilcox from Southampton, and Omar Berrada is set to begin his tenure as the CEO on July 13th. Dan Ashworth is the final piece to an incredible collection of some of the Premier League’s best officials that INEOS has created.
