All group stage round two matches are now complete, and most teams are still alive in this tournament. The three fixtures held quality goals and some record-breaking results for some nations. Read on to find out what happened!
Georgia 1 Czechia 1
For the first time ever, Georgia has a point in a major tournament. Georges Mikautadze converted a penalty for his second goal in two games for his nation. Patrik Schick scored one for Czechia, but they were unable to push on for the winner and had to settle for a point.
Georgia manager Willy Sagnol said he “feels pride” for leading Georgia to its first point, though the job is not finished. Sagnol’s side still has an opportunity to qualify for the next stage, but they will have to beat group leaders Portugal.
Czechia also can qualify for the knockouts with a win over Turkey.
Portugal 3 Turkey 0
Portugal, led by Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, secured a place in the knockout stages with a 3-0 dominant win over Turkey.
Bernardo Silva was the first on the board for Portugal with a finessed finish, and a second goal came soon after through an own goal. Samet Akaydin and backup Manchester United keeper Altay Bayindir had a critical miscommunication that led the former to pass it into his own net.
Bruno Fernandes had an easy finish in the second half, as Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo played him in to tap it into an empty net.
Portugal will be thrilled with how the group has gone so far and will be looking ahead to a strong run after the group stage.
Belgium 2 Romania 0
After a shocking loss in their opening match, Belgium rebounded to beat Romania 2-0 and revive their chances to move on past the group stage.
Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans got the day started quickly for Belgium with a 2nd minute goal. After a day of dreadful finishing last time out, this was a huge boost for his nation. Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne capped off the win with a late finish assisted by goalkeeper Koen Casteels.
A side note of this match was that former United striker Romelu Lukaku had his third goal of the tournament ruled out already by VAR. Incredible.
All teams in this group still have a chance to go through, setting up an intriguing final matchday.
