Current and former Reds had a major impact on the results of today’s Euros matches. Let’s jump into the action below!

Netherlands 2 Poland 1

Former Reds Memphis Depay and Wout Weghorst were in action for the Netherlands in the early match.

After a shock opening goal from Poland’s Adam Buksa, Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo leveled for the Oranje. Just as it looked like the match was destined for a draw, Wout Weghorst came off the bench to make the difference. Weghorst finished a deflected cross from Nathan Ake in the 83rd minute to give his nation the late lead and victory.

With matches against Austria and France ahead, today’s win will go a long way in securing advancement to the Round of 16.

Denmark 1 Slovenia 1

Three years ago, Christian Eriksen fought for his life after going into cardiac arrest at the European Championships. Today, on his Euros return, the Danish midfielder opened the scoring for Denmark against Slovenia. It was an incredible moment for Eriksen, who also became Denmark’s oldest goal scorer in a European Championship. The United midfielder bossed the match, scored his goal, and won the Man of the Match award.

Unfortunately for Eriksen and Denmark, a deflected finish saw Slovenia level, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw. With England up next, the path to qualification does not get any easier.

Rasmus Hojlund started and played 80 minutes for Denmark but was unable to affect the game.

England 1 Serbia 0

In an unconvincing performance, England escaped their opening match with a 1-0 win over Serbia. Jude Bellingham provided the only goal of the game with a header in the 13th minute. A strong start turned into a fight as Serbia settled into the game and tested the England back line. Serbia, though, was unable to find their moment, and England grabbed an important opening win.

Kobbie Mainoo made his Euro debut for England as he came on in the 85th minute and helped the Three Lions secure the clean sheet and win.

Luke Shaw will be looking to return to action in England’s next match against Denmark.

Should Kobbie Mainoo be given a chance to start against Denmark?
