Player, manager, contributor, and now… journalist? Wayne Rooney has joined the Sunday Times to write about the upcoming European Championships. He will be able to leverage his experiences, which he discussed in his first piece (Read Here), and write about the matches at the tournament for the Three Lions.

Wayne Rooney had six goals and an assist in his ten Euro matches. He played four in 2004, two in 2012, and four in 2016. England missed Euro 2008, so Rooney was not able to build off his incredible 2004 performance.

An 18-year-old Wayne Rooney took Euro 2004 by storm. England lost the opening match 2-1, and Rooney was unable to leave his mark on that match. However, the next two games were all about the 18-year-old phenom. Rooney scored braces against Switzerland and Croatia and added an assist in the latter match. Unfortunately, his Euros ended with an injury against Portugal, and England lost on penalties. His stellar performances earned him his move to Manchester United, where he is the all-time top goal scorer.

After taking the job at Plymouth Argyle and joining Gary Neville’s Overlap show, Rooney will take the summer to contribute to the Sunday Times. Hopefully, the United legend will begin to find success in his post-playing days soon.
