Kylian Mbappe is one of, if not the best, footballers in the world. But would he be a fit for Manchester United?
News came out today through sources such as ESPN and Fabrizio Romano that Kylian Mbappe has told PSG that he will not return next year. This will mark the end of his seven-year stay with the club, where he has scored 168 league goals and won countless honors and trophies.
The obvious favorite for his signature is Real Madrid, as he has shown his desire to join the club, and they have returned his interest. However, there does seem to be an opportunity for another club to entice the forward to join. Clubs such as Barcelona, Chelsea, and Manchester United could be seen as options to pry Mbappe’s eyes off Real Madrid.
So, let’s ask the question. Could Kylian Mbappe fit into this Manchester United squad?
My answer is no.
Don’t get me wrong, signing Mbappe would instantly improve the talent in Manchester United’s team, but it would at the risk of stunting the growth of players like Garnacho and Hojlund.
Whatever club Mbappe goes to, he will instantly become the focus. The ball will be at his feet, and everyone else will play off him. If Mbappe came to United, this would cause problems for young players who have the potential to be world-class.
There is also the ego problem with Erik Ten Hag. Bringing in Mbappe risks United having another Ronaldo situation. ETH simply does not like big egos and will not stand for players defying him or becoming the focus.
Manchester United would be much better off going for a player like Michael Olise. Signing Mbappe would come with a huge salary that could affect Unied’s ability to bring in more players needed to improve the squad. A young player like Olise, who is proven in the Premier League, could provide United with needed talent while leaving the door open for more transfers and improvements.
Manchester United, think long and hard before pursuing Mbappe.
